The UW Madison is studying road building with recyclables. Thanks to a federal grant and a partnership with the University of New Hampshire, the Recycled Materials Resource Center will look at using foundry byproducts in road construction. Craig Benson is a UW-Madison professor of civil and environmental engineering and center co-director. Benson says recyclables will never entirely replace new materials in road building, but will provide a valuable supplement. Benson expects to see such "road recyclables" in increasing use over the next five years.
