Harvey Stower, Amery mayor since 1996 and a former state Representative, died Tuesday morning at a hospital in the Twin Cities.
The news comes after he suffered a heart attack at his home last Friday.
Stower spent eight years in the Legislature, after first being elected in 1982. In 1994, he made an unsuccessful bid in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District.
Amery City Council President Mike Karuschak Jr. will assume the role of interim mayor.
