The Government Accountability Board says the clock is now officially ticking on 19 campaigns against 16 members of the state Senate. Those are evenly split between Republicans and Democrats.
GAB officials say initial paperwork had been filed in 22 campaigns, but three failed to meet a deadline to continue collecting petitions from voters in those districts. All of those were filed by the “American Recall Coalition.”
The campaigns have 60 days to collect the needed signatures, with petitions due anywhere between April 25th and May 16th. The smallest number of signatures required is for the effort against Democratic Senator Spencer Coggs (D-Milwaukee) at 11,817. The largest requirement is for the campaign against Republican Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), which needs 20,973.
All Senators currently open to a recall are facing a campaign. Three Democrats are each the subject of petition drives from two groups.
