Until new leads are uncovered, the active search for a 31-year-old survival instructor from Wisconsin has been suspended. Thomas Seibold, originally from Germany and currently a resident of Three Lakes in Oneida County, is an experienced outdoorsman and worked for the past six years at the Teaching Drum Outdoor School.
Seibold arrived in Alaska in June of this year and spent the next three months traveling in the north of the state. By September Seibold had reached the community of Ambler. He continued up the Ambler River and spent some time at a cabin 30 miles upriver from the community at the cabin of a mother and her 13-year-old son before setting out for Gates of the Arctic National Park and Reserve on September 27th. Seibold has not been heard from since.
Alaska State Troopers began for searching for Seibold after he failed to arrive for a flight in mid-November. Searchers have covered 3,500 square miles in search of Seibold.
