A Minnesota woman who killed her ex-husband in that state is being charged in the death of her boyfriend in an Ashland motel in 2011. The Ashland Daily Press reports that Angelina Omara of Rice, Minnesota, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 36 year-old Michael Pies of Blaine, Minnesota.
The 39 year-old Omara has already pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree murder in the shooting death of her ex-husband, 43 year-old James Omara of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.
Both shootings occurred in the fall of 2011. Omara was alleged to have first shot her ex-husband in his apartment, and then killed Pies in Ashland, more than 200 miles from the scene of the first killing. In the Minnesota case, Omara entered her plea on November 13th of 2012, and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Ashland County District Attorney Kelly McKnight filed charges against Omara in December following an investigation that began when Pies’ body was found in a motel room by Ashland police officers, after relatives requested that they check on his welfare.
The Ashland County coroner determined that Pies died from a single gunshot wound the head The same manner of death was determined for James Omara.
A date of March 7th has been set for the arraignment of Angelina Omara. Judge Robert Eaton said only an arraignment was contemplated, but he would leave time open for sentencing if the defendant wished to enter a guilty plea.
