Another deer hunter was shot-and-wounded in Wisconsin this morning. Pierce County authorities say a 45-year-old man from rural Ellsworth was shot in his lower waist by a stray bullet from another hunter in his party. They were on a deer drive when the mishap occurred at around eight this morning.
The man was flown to Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota with undetermined injuries. Sheriff’s officials said the incident was deemed to be accidental, but it remains under investigation.
Since the state’s nine day gun season opened on Saturday, at least six other hunters have been wounded. None of the injuries have been fatal, although Hollywood actor and Tomahawk native Jay Leggett collapsed and died last Saturday while returning to his hunting cabin.
The gun season runs through Sunday.
