Packers give McCarthy his first win

September 25, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The Green Bay Packers first win of the 2006 NFL season was also the first win in the head coaching career of Mike McCarthy. The Packers jumped out to an early lead on the Detroit Lions when Brett Favre hooked up with rookie Greg Jennings for a 75 yard touchtown pass and went on to a 31-24 win at Lambeau Field. Favre threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns, moving him over 400 (402) for touchdown passes in his career. He joins Dan Marino as the only quarterbacks in the history of the game to throw for 400 or more touchdowns. Jon Kitna threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns, but was intercepted once. Kevin Jones also chipped in with 81 yards for the Lions, who fell to 0-3. The Packers are now 1-2 and will face the Eagles in Philadelphia next Monday night.
