Packers suffer more injuries, this time to backfield

October 30, 2006 By WRN Contributor

The Green Bay Packers appear to have lost some significant contributors in their backfield for a little while.  Backup runningback Vernand Morency , fresh off of his 101-yard, 11-carry rushing day against Arizona, Morency could miss at least the next couple of weeks.  Morency suffered a lower back injury late in the contest.  He paired with Ahman Green to become the first Packers backfield combo to both rush for over 100 yards in the same game.  The last time it happened was back in 1985 when Eddie Lee Ivory and Gerry Ellis pulled it off.

The Packers also learned that fullback Brandon Miree suffered a hyperextended left elbow.  That injury will leave him doubtful for Sunday's game at Buffalo.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he and general manager Ted Thompson will consider bringing in another running back to fill Morency's spot and that Noah Herron would fill his spot in the lineup.  Veteran William Henderson is expected to fill in for Miree.
