Marquette beats fourth top 25 opponent

January 22, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The Marquette Golden Eagles knocked off their 4th (4-1) top 25 opponent of the season, beating Pittsburgh 77-74 in overtime on Sunday.  It's also their fourth straight Big East victory after starting the season with back to back losses.

Dominic James' hit a pair of free throws with under a second left to play in overtime to lead the Golden Eagles to a win over the 6th ranked Panthers.

Marquette (17-4, 4-2 Big East) sent Pittsburgh (17-3, 5-1) to it's first home loss in 13 games this season.

The Golden Eagles, who have struggled at the free throw line this season, performed well in that area on Sunday.  The Golden Eagles hit 14 out of 14 in the final 25 seconds of regulation and overtime 24 of 31 for the game.

Dominic James scored 23 points to lead Marquette.  The Golden Eagles will host Seton Hall on Wednesday night at the Bradley Center.
