"Moderate conservative" Thompson stumps in Iowa

March 2, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Former Governor Tommy Thompson is back in Iowa this weekend trying to win presidential support one vote at a time. Tommy Thompson is confident he can win the Iowa presidential caucuses next year.

Political pundits are already labeling front running republicans as either conservative… not conservative enough or too socially liberal. “A moderate conservative” is how Thompson describes himself. “I don't get hung up on idealogy like so many candidates. I look at an issue, and try to come up with a solution.”

The Iowa Caucuses are in January next year. Thompson, who's seen how Washington works as President Bush's Health and Human Services Secretary, doesn't like what he sees now. “They hate each other out there,” he says. “Democrats hate Republicans, Republicans hate Democrats . . . all they want to do is get on the 6:00 news, and they don't give a damn about what gets done.”
