McCarthy plans to keep players fresher during training camp

June 19, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Mike McCarthy Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he felt he overworked his team at times during training camp last year and plans to give them a break when the 2007 version of training camp opens on July 28th.

McCarthy released the Packers' NFL training camp schedule on Monday and this time, he plans on giving his players Wednesday's off during the month of August.

Wednesday is both a meeting and walk-through day so McCarthy, for the first time, will give his players three Wednesday's off.  He came up with the idea after talking with players to see what might result in the best practice sessions possible.

McCarthy will also continue to hold eight night time practices for the second straight year.

Players seem reserved in the response to the release of the schedule.  Some players say the time off would be nice, but feel they have to see it to believe it.
