A third term for Doyle?

July 2, 2007 By WRN Contributor

A UW political expert says Governor Doyle is sending a message by hinting that he'll run for a third term.

The Governor dropped the hint at the Democratic state convention in Milwaukee over the weekend, saying he may need another four year term to finish work on issues such as stem cell research and renewable energy.

UW-Milwaukee Political Scientist Mordecai Lee says he's not surprised by Doyle's statements. Lee believes it's reasonable to think that after a "brutal re-election campaign," the Governor may think he can survive a third four-year term in office.

Lee says Doyle is also sending the message that he's not a lame duck governor, which will help preserve his influence in the state legislature.
