Packers sign Werner at TE

July 31, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The Green Bay Packers have signed former UW-La Crosse basketball standout Joe Werner to a free agent contract today.

The 6-6, 252-pound tight end, was a two-time Division III All-American and the 2007 WIAC Player of the Year.  He led the Eagles both in scoring (16.7 points) and rebounding (9.7 per game).

Werner had received a tryout with the Packers prior to the draft.  He'll wear No. 47 in training camp.

To make room on the roster, the Packers placed punter David Lonie on injured reserve.
