Report on Iraq "highly anticipated"

August 27, 2007 By WRN Contributor

US Representative Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) says she's highly anticipating a report from the US commander in Iraq.

The report from Army General David Petraeus is due out this fall, and will likely call for a continuation of the troop surge in Iraq. Baldwin says most of Congress already wants a much different approach, since they want to see troops redeployed and returning home.

Still, Baldwin expects Congress to listen carefully to what the General says. The Wisconsin Democrat says the General is respected and the report will lead to much discussion as Congress debates funding for the war.

However, Baldwin says the report isn't likely to change Democrats' minds about getting troops out of Iraq.

Many other top military officials are also supporting the idea of scaling back the presence of US troops in Iraq.
