Ryan: Gonzales says "enough is enough"

August 27, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan is not surprised at the resignation of U-S Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. Gonzales' resignation ends a controversial tenure that saw the A.G. clash with Congress over the firing of nine U.S. attorneys and the use of warrantless wiretaps in the war on terror. Republican Ryan says the prospect of continued pressure by Congress likely forced this decision. "Congress comes back from the August recess a week from tomorrow," Ryan told WRJN. "He was going to . . . have to go back up to Capitol Hill and testify. I think he probably said enough is enough." The attorney general's support in Congress had deteriorated: Ryan and fellow Wisconsin Congressman James Sensenbrenner were just two of the many Republicans who had questioned Gonzales' ability to continue to lead the Justice Department.
