Fielder clubs 50th home run, wants to outshine dad!

September 26, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Prince Fielder clubbed two home runs last night and became the youngest player in Major League history to reach 50 home runs in the Brewers 9-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park.

Rickie Weeks and Bill Hall also homered in the win as the Brewers pulled to within 2 games of the front running Cubs in the N.L. Central with 5-games left to play.

Fielder got to 50 at the age of 23 years, 139 days.  That passes Willie Mays who had achieved the milestone at 24 years and 137 days.

Fielder hasn't spent much time at all talking about his father Cecil Fielder.  Cecil and Prince became the first father – son duo to reach 50 homers.  Cecil did it in 1990 while with the Detroit Tigers.

Prince Fielder was not happy about comments made by his father in a magazine article earlier in the year, claiming his son never would have been a first-round pick if he hadn't paved the way.  The two haven't spoken for years.

Fielder said he was serious about out-doing his father, saying that's what drives him.
