Lawmaker calls for conference committee changes

September 12, 2007 By WRN Contributor

A state lawmaker wants to shake things up on the legislature's budget conference committee.

State Representative Frank Boyle (D-Superior) says members of the budget conference committee have reached an insurmountable impasse. He says that if the current members can't finish the work, they need to go.

Boyle is introducing a resolution that calls for the eight members of the committee to be replaced with other lawmakers. He also wants to appoint a mediator to help get the job done.

The conference committee has met multiple times in the past two months, but little progress has been made towards reaching a compromise on the state budget. The Democrat from Superior says current tactics clearly need to be changed.
