Doyle questions Bush priorities on SCHIP veto

October 3, 2007 By WRN Contributor

President Bush vetoed the renewal of the state child healthcare program this week. The program provides federal funding for state programs like Wisconsin's BadgerCare.

On a visit to Eau Claire on Wednesday to talk about the overdue state budget, Governor Jim Doyle said he doesn't understand the President's priorities. Doyle says the President has spent excessively for years, but suddenly decided to become fiscally responsible with this veto. The Governor says many are questioning why the President would want to block children from having access to healthcare.

Doyle expects Congress to override the veto. In defending his actions, President Bush accused Democrats of trying to federalize healthcare.
