Travel costs forcing plan changes

December 21, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Over 65 million Americans will travel for the holidays, but that's fewer than expected.

The rising cost of air fares and gas are finally having an impact on holiday travel. Pam Moen with AAA Wisconsin says there's only a one-percent increase in the number of expected travelers this year. Moen says the lower increase than usual may be a sign that sustained higher prices are taking a toll on travel plans.

Gas prices have been climbing steadily over the past two years, but the impact hasn't been very clear before this year. Moen says people can't ignore rising prices forever. She doesn't expect things to change until the market overall improves, if that happens.

If you're among those traveling this weekend, expect Saturday to be the busiest day on the roads and in airports.
