Debate over a "snowy day fund"

January 29, 2008 By WRN Contributor

The state Transportation Department should make the call on a proposed "snowy day fund" for Wisconsin. That's according to Craig Thompson of the Transportation Development Association.

The idea for a snowy day fund is from State Representative Gary Hebl, who says local government budgets are strained with all the snow the state has had this winter. He wants to take money from the state Transportation Fund to assist communities that go over their budget because of excess snowfall.

Thompson says it may be appropriate for the money to come from that fund, but he believes the decision should be left up to the state DOT.
