Smoking ban back in the spotlight

March 3, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Debate over a statewide smoking ban heats up at the Capitol this week.

a legislative panel scheduled to vote Tuesday on a statewide ban that covers bars and restaurants. There's a pro-ban rally as well, featuring Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong. And the Tavern League will bring members to Madison on Wednesday to lobby against the measure.

State Senator Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) is not a smoker, but he's against efforts to pass a statewide smoking ban. Grothman says those who own their own business should be able to determine what goes on there. He thinks the proposed ban doesn't have the support needed to pass this year.
