Extreme wildfire danger in 7 counties

April 17, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Despite heavy snowfall over the winter and a wet spring that has led to flooding in some areas, the Department of Natural Resources says fire danger is extreme in seven counties in southwest and south central Wisconsin. Strong winds have led to dry conditions and the heightened fire danger in Dane, Columbia, Sauk, Iowa, Richland, Grant and Crawford counties. Fire danger is also very high in 16 additional counties in central and western Wisconsin, according to the DNR . A chance of rain in the statewide weather forecast for Thursday could help to ease fire danger somewhat.
