Wisconsin man's body found in IA

April 16, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Just after 10 PM Tuesday night, Bellevue Iowa Police Chief Lynn Schwager, says his department got a phone call from someone walking along side the Mississippi River. The passerby reported a floating body. Bellevue Police, Fire and Rescue and Federal Fish and Wildlife removed the body. The Jackson County Medical Examiner identified the body as that of David Donald Kieffer, 69, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin. His car was found running on a nearby Iowa/Illinois bridge. Schwager says Kieffer had lived in Bellevue for a short time and recently returned to Wisconsin to live near family. Kieffer disappeared on April 3rd.

Schwager says the IA State Medical Examiner will be doing autopsy and toxicology tests on the body. The investigation is now being handled by police in Dubuque, the city where the body was initially found.
