Scott Ritter was among the earliest, most outspoken critics of Iraq War. As a UN weapons inspector to Iraq in the 90's, he claimed before the 2003 invasion, that Saddam Hussein possessed no WMD's. He believes that regime change was the real reason for the 2003 invasion. He believes this policy started with George Herbert Walker Bush and continued through the current Bush administration.
"The Clinton doctrine certified as the policy of the United States, removing Saddam Hussein from power. All George W. Bush did, was execute that policy to perfection."
He notes that President Clinton attempted at least four times to remove Hussein from power through both covert and overt military means.
Ritter is highly critical of both administrations claiming they have both "fabricated" and "manipulated" intelligence to present an image of Iraqi non-compliance of weapons disarmament. Ritter says Iraq possessed WMD's at one point but destroyed them in the 1990's.
The former US Marine Intelligence officer has been touring Madison this week giving presentations on Iraq, Iran and covert operations.
