Conservation group praises lawmakers

July 17, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Higher grades for state lawmakers in a scorecard released by the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters.

League spokeswoman Jennifer Giegrich says there were dramatic improvements from two years ago. That's largely due to action this year to approve the Great Lakes Compact and renew the Stewardship Fund.

The group criticizes lawmakers, though, for failing to pass a bill to remove politics from the DNR by taking away the power of the Governor to appoint the agency's secretary. The League is also concerned by a lack of legsilation that would help the state address the threat of global warming.
