Keeping closer tabs on sexual predators

July 22, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A state lawmaker wants tougher laws on sex offenders and how they use the Internet.

The proposal from state Representative Andy Jorgensen (D-Fort Atkinson) would require sex offenders who register with the state to turn over their personal e-mail address and any websites they maintain. Jorgensen says tougher standards are needed, because more offenders are going online to lure potential victims. He says studies have shown one in five children have reported being approached or sexually solicited online.

Under his plan, the criminals would have to provide the information to the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.
