Walker: McCain could take Milwaukee

September 2, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Although Barack Obama addressed a sold out crowd in Milwaukee Monday, an area leader says John McCain can win the city. On Monday speeches at the Republican National Convention were cancelled in part to McCain's request due to gulf region's storms.

“In the end he's (Obama) got to answer to the voters, in my mind we're doing the right thing here we're keeping the focus on the people in the gulf coast, ” says Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker.

Walker notes there are a lot of “Reagan Democrats” in Milwaukee, as well as a large veteran population attracted to McCain's military background. The county head says the Arizona Senator's maverick status appeals to a number of independents.

He says it's possible VP choice Sarah Palin may bring in anywhere from 10 to 15 percent of Hillary Clinton supporters. In a tight race like Wisconsin, Walker says “that could be the difference.”
