Booze & Belts

Law enforcement is out in force this week, to make sure motorists are buckled up – and sober. The "Booze & Belts" traffic safety effort starts today and runs through next Monday. George Silverwood is with the state Bureau of Transportation Safety calls it a pre-holidy effort to call attention to the issues of safety belts and not driving impaired.

Some 200 law enforcement agencies are participating, with the goal of reducing drunk driving and increasing seatbelt usage.Silverwood says a lot of the focus around the holidays is on drunk driving and New Year's Eve — but he notes there are plenty of holiday parties where people can put themselves at risk.
