Muscle mass added to long arm of the law

April 24, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Milwaukee police are swapping their shotguns for semi automatic rifles as they face increasing numbers of criminals who are armed to the teeth. Police Chief Ed Flynn says officers have recently confiscated assault rifles, sub-machine guns, and even a grenade launcher from criminals. He calls it obvious that police and the community are "facing an increasingly dangerous threat."

Flynn says the department's .223 caliber semi automatic weapons are more accurate, can fire farther and faster, and can even pierce body armor. The rifles, which will require additional training, will be put into service in 30 squad cars.

The weapons upgrade is an even exchange therefore it will not cost any more money.
