Effort to recall Guv is growing

May 7, 2009 By WRN Contributor

The organizers of a recall effort against Governor Jim Doyle say they are growing quickly. Vince Schmuki of Wisconsinites Interests Now says there grassroots movement has gone from a handful of volunteers to 3,000 since eight weeks ago when the drive started. Schmuki says when they get to 10,000 volunteers they should be able to start a petition drive. Once underway, they will have 60 days to collect 540,000 signatures from around the state. Schmuki says they plan on exceeding the required number of signatures as they expect to be challenged.

The gubernatorial election is in 2010. Governor Doyle has not said whether he will run for another term. Schmuki says regardless, the time to get Doyle out of office is now.

"Every second that goes by hundreds of dollars are being spent by our Governor. These are dollars we don't have," says Schmuki.

WIN has teamed up Citizens for Responsible Government who in 2002 successfully recalled Milwaukee County Executive Tom Ament over a pension fund scandal.
