Fondy cops probe drive-by

June 11, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A pleasant day was interrupted by gunfire in front of a Fond du Lac apartment building Wednesday afternoon. and police are looking for a car which may have been used in a drive-by shooting. Police Major Kevin Lemke says a group of people was fired at and several rounds hit a vehicle in the city on Wednesday

A woman and two children were in the car, but no one was hurt in the incident. Lemke says quite a few people were witnesses, but their stories are a bit shaky. "We had a lot of witnesses, and we're getting a lot of different stories, but unfortunately we're getting a lot of statements that don't appear to be credible."

Lemke says someone fired several rounds at a group of people at an apartment building. Officers were on the scene shortly afterwards. "The vehicle that was hit by at least one bullet, possibly more, did contain a woman and two children," says Lemke. "When officers arrived within a minute of the call coming through, we sealed off the area and checked for injuries. Thank God, no one was hurt."

Witnesses say the car involved in the drive-by shooting was an older, white, four-door with rust on it. Lemke says five shell casings were recovered at the scene.
