Brewers acquire Vargas from the Dodgers

July 31, 2009 By WRN Contributor

The Milwaukee Brewers sent minor league catcher Vinny Rottino to the Los Angeles Dodgers today for RHP Claudio Vargas.

This is the second stint for Vargas with the Brewers.  He made 29 appearances, 23 starts, with Milwaukee in 2007, posting an 11-6 record with a 5.09 ERA.  He was released by the Brewers on March 25, 2008.

The 31 year old Vargas has made eight appearances out of the bullpen this season for the Dodgers, posting a record of 0-0 with a 1.64 ERA (2er/11ip).  Vargas was placed on the disabled list on April 6 with right elbow tendinitis and was activated on July 3.  He signed with the Dodgers as a free agent on Jan. 2.

Vargas will join the Brewers in San Diego tomorrow at which time a corresponding roster move will be made.
