Drug sales may have spurred fatal home invasion

October 13, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A Kenosha County man is dead, the victim of a violent home invasion. Kenosha County Sheriff’s investigators say the victim and one of the suspects in the home invasion early Tuesday morning had been friends in high school.

Four men broke into the home in the western Kenosha County Town of Brighton just after midnight Tuesday, killing 50 year old John Leydell. Leydell’s wife Susan called 911 while the men were still inside her home, unaware her husband had been shot.

Sheriff David Beth says while Susan Leydell was talking to dispatchers, the men fled, only to be arrested minutes later by deputies, who found three guns inside their vehicle.

Beth says investigators are still trying to determine exactly who shot the victim, but that the motivation for the crime may have stemmed from a drug sale involving a family member of one of the suspects, 50 year old John Navigato

Beth says Navigato and Leydell had known each other since high school, and that he had attended school with both men as well.
