Madison flexes against county over 911 center

February 19, 2010 By WRN Contributor

The city of Madison is filing a restraining order against Dane County to stop it from making part of the 911 center automated, which would begin Saturday.  With the automation the county would no longer be dispatched to parking enforcement calls unless the city pays the county $33,000 dollars.

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz says it’s illegal, premature and bad public policy. The mayor is not only worried that costs would increase over the years but the action would open a “vein” in the city of Madison and other municipalities to pay for services already covered by county tax funding.

Dane County officials say they plan to move ahead anyway.
