Plea in Lincoln County heroin overdose

February 13, 2010 By Bob Hague

An Antigo man admits causing a Tomahawk woman’s drug overdose last spring. Kevin Krugel pled guilty to giving Nicole Hedges the heroin that she overdosed on in May. Lincoln County Judge Glenn Hartley accepted the plea. Hartley said Krugel doesn’t pose a flight risk and will let him out on bond pending sentencing. But he says Krugel has to keep wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet and comply with a home curfew.

Prosecutors will limit their recommendation to three years in prison and five years on extended supervision at Krugel’s sentencing in April. But Hartley ordered a pre-sentence investigation to help him fashion his sentence. Krugel’s dealer has been charged in federal court with giving Krugel the illegal drug. Hedges’ death is considered the first heroin overdose in Merrill in recent history.
