Sorgi leaves one Manning for another

March 10, 2010 By Bill Scott

Former Wisconsin Badger quarterback Jim Sorgi backed up Peyton Manning for six years with the Indianapolis Colts.  Now he’ll try to do the same with Peyton’s brother Eli after signing a 1-year deal with the New York Giants.

Sorgi will compete with second-year man Rhett Bomar for the Giants’ backup job.  Sorgi was a sixth-round pick by the Colts back in 2004.

Sorgi has played in 16 NFL games, throwing six touchdowns and just one interception.  Sorgi was placed on injured reserve in December with shoulder tendinitis.  He worked out for the Giants on Monday and said his shoulder is fine.
