Driver injured when cattle truck overturns

April 30, 2010 By WRN Contributor

An overturned cattle truck a Highway 151 bypass in Fond du Lac blocked off traffic for several hours Thursday. A southbound semi-truck overturned in the median. The driver, 55-year-old Patrick DeGeneffe of Chilton, told State Troopers, a gray vehicle, possibly an SUV, driving eastbound pulled out in front of him and he swerved to the left to avoid overturning the truck.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Dean Will says there were 11 full-size cows and two calves in the truck. Several of the cows were injured and one had to be euthanized. They got help with the others from Eden Veterinary Clinic, Batterman Trucking, and dairy farmer Gary Boyke.

The semi driver suffered a head and possible leg injury and was flown by a Flight for Life helicopter to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. The State Patrol is investigating the accident.
