Packers lose Burnett for the season (AUDIO)

October 4, 2010 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers have lost rookie safety Morgan Burnett for the season.  Burnett suffered a torn ACL in the 28-26 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday in Green Bay.

It’s not clear when the injury occurred, other than to say it came in the first half.

McCarthy said Burnett started to feel some of the symptoms of a torn ACL, but continued to play on.

It’ll be at least two weeks before former starter Atari Bigby is eligible to come off the physically unable to perform list and then, the Packers will get a closer look at him.

Derrick Martin filled in on Sunday, but Charlie Peprah is the leading candidate to take over the position even though he has missed the last two games with a thigh injury.

The Packers, once they place Burnett on injured reserve, will have a spot to fill on the roster.  They currently have a safety on their practice squad, rookie Anthony Levine, who was with the team since the start of training camp.
