Barca named Assembly Minority Leader

November 10, 2010 By Andrew Beckett

The new Minority Leader in the state Assembly says he’s open to working with majority Republicans.

Assembly Democrats on Tuesday unanimously named state Representative Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) to represent them as Minority Leader during the next legislative session. Barca ran unopposed after state Representative Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) dropped out of the race.

Barca says he’s open to Republican calls for legislation that will get people back to work. However, Barca says Democrats will fight aggressively against policies that try to take away health insurance from the needy or cut education.

Barca believes Democrats lost the majority in last week’s election by not working hard enough to get their message out to the public. He says that’s something they will work to fix during the next two years.

State Representative Donna Seidel (D-Wausau) was named assistant Minority Leader.
