Wisconsin’s Watt to the Houston Texans

April 28, 2011 By Bill Scott

Wisconsin defensive end J.J. Watt will call Houston his home for the next few years.  Watt was taken with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Detroit Lions made a big splash with their first pick.  With the 13th overall pick, the Lions added more defensive line help by picking Auburn DT Nick Farley.

The Minnesota Vikings had the pick before, #12 overall.  The Vikings took a quarterback, Christian Ponder out of Florida State.  Ponder took is the fourth quarterback taken among the first 12 picks.  Going before him, Cam Newton (Auburn) #1 overall to Carolina, Jake Locker (Washington) #8 overall to Tennessee and Jacksonville traded up into the 10th spot with Washington, taking Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert.

Atlanta traded up from #27 to #6 to pick Alabama WR Julio Jones.  The Falcons paid a steep price for such a jump, giving Cleveland their 1st, 2nd and 4th round picks in this draft and a 1st and 4th round pick next year.

The Packers have the 32nd pick in the first round with that selection to come later this evening.
