Right to life groups are pleased with the state budget – pro-choice groups less so. Barbara Lyons with Wisconsin Right to Life says the budget has two key provisions. One deprives organizations which provide abortions or abortion referrals from receiving federal Family Planing funds. She says that will impact Planned Parenthood. Lyons is also commending the budget writers for barring UW Madison from operating a late turn abortion center. The university had already scrapped such plans. Lisa Subeck with NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin says the budget imperils access to preventative care including pap smears, cancer screening, screening and treatment for STDs, and birth control, to thousands of women across the state.
