Beil not backing down (AUDIO)

September 5, 2011 By Bob Hague

What’s the Labor Day message from state workers, to Governor Scott Walker and Republican legislative leaders?

Marty Beil, executive director of AFSCME Council 24, says “If they think that they can intimidate us and threaten us, and push us around, they’re wrong. We’re not pulling the covers over our head, we’re standing toe to toe with these guys.”

Beil also called on state employees to rededicate themselves. “We’ve been in the fight since February. We need to reenergize. We can’t sit down, we can’t take a break here,” he said.

Union leadership is strategizing on its next move, and it’s going to require a major effort. “I think the recall Scott Walker effort is another major step in our battle. We see that as a significant piece of where we need to go.”
