Brewers couldn’t get to Cubs’ Coleman

September 20, 2011 By Bill Scott

Casey Coleman came into last night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers with a 2-8 record and a 7.06 ERA.  Unfortunately, the Brewers managed just 2-hits off of Coleman through 6-innings and lost 5-2.

Coleman struck out 8.  His only blemish came in the 3rd when Jerry Hairston Jr., homered.

The loss goes to Chris Narveson (10-8), who hadn’t started since Sept. 8.  Narveson couldn’t solve Cubs catcher Geovanny Soto, who went 3 for 3 with a pair of two run homers and all five runs batted in.

The Brewers lead on the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central is now at 5 1/2 games.  Their magic number to clinch the central remains at 4.

Casey McGehee also homered for the Cubs, a solo shot off of Carlos Marmol in the 9th.

Game 2 of the series is tonight at Wrigley Field.
