Wilson’s play will have to earn him the Heisman (AUDIO)

October 11, 2011 By Bill Scott

If Wisconsin Badger quarterback Russell Wilson is going to win the Heisman

Russell Wilson

Trophy, he’s going to earn it the good old-fashioned way, by his performance on the field.

Wilson entered the week No. 1 in the nation in passing efficiency with a rating of 216.89.  He’s completed 74.8% of his passes for 1,391 yards with 13 touchdowns and only 1 interception.

UW’s Heisman campaign features a Twitter page and a Facebook page, both titled RussellManiaXVI.  Coach Bret Bielema said Wilson will win the Heisman with his play, not his campaign.

Wilson is currently second behind Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck on a number of Heisman lists, including ESPN and Sports Illustrated.

AUDIO: Russell Wilson says his focus isn’t on the Heisman campaign, but he is flattered :21

Wilson and the Badgers (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten) had the week off last week.  They’ll host Indiana (1-5, 0-2 Big Ten) this Saturday at Camp Randall.
