Search continues in Social Security fraud case

September 13, 2012 By WRN Contributor

Portage County sheriffs deputies are continuing their search of a property in Amherst Junction, looking for the remains of a missing 100 year-old woman. Marie Jost hasn’t been seen for nearly 20 years, and three relatives are in jail — accused of continuing to cash her Social Security checks. Cadaver dogs have been called in to help with the investigation.

Investigators have said Jost’s name didn’t appear on the deed to the property until 1984. And they’re not sure why the property taxes were paid through a post office box in Illinois.

Charles Jost, Dolores Disher, and Ron Disher are in custody, and according to police, have not been cooperating with the investigation. Prosecutors allege the trio received $175,000 dollars in Social Security payments which were supposed to be paid to Marie Jost.
