Children safe after abduction attempt

October 2, 2012 By WRN Contributor

A 19-year-old Fond du Lac man faces kidnapping charges for allegedly taking three young children from a woman at a Fond du Lac residence Monday night. Police say it began as a call about a man involved in a battery incident in Oshkosh. Shortly after being notified of that by Oshkosh Police, Fond du Lac officers were notified of an abandoned 911 call from a residence in the 300 block of Hawthorne Drive. On calling back, they learned the man had shown up at the residence and abducted three children, ages 3, 4 and 5-years. The mother was the victim of the battery incident in Oshkosh.

The man fled from the scene and police initiated a statewide Amber Alert. The suspect was involved in a pursuit in the Village of Menomonee Falls, which ended when he crashed his vehicle. He tried to flee on foot, but was caught. The children were taken to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee with unspecified injuries.

The man is facing charges in Fond du Lac County for kidnapping, and additional charges in Menomonee Falls and Oshkosh. Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb commended his officers and detectives, as well as Fond du Lac County Communication Officers, Oshkosh and Menomonee Falls police for quickly gathering the pertinent information and coordinating with neighboring agencies to locate the suspect, averting potential tragedy.
