Big Ten Network says Maryland is moving to the Big Ten

November 19, 2012 By Bill Scott

The University of Maryland has a news conference set for this afternoon, reportedly to announce the school’s departure from the ACC and subsequently becoming the 13th member of the Big Ten Conference.

Rutgers (Big East) is expected to join the Big Ten with an announcement on Tuesday.

The move isn’t expected to take effect until at least 2014.  ESPN.com reported that Maryland’s board of regents approved the move today.

If both schools complete the move to the Big Ten, would increase the conference to 14 teams.
