Women’s College hoops roundup

February 15, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Wisconsin Badger women’s basketball team blew a 28-20 halftime lead and fell to the Purdue Boilermakers 58-48 in Big Ten Women’s basketball action on Thursday night.

Purdue (19-5, 8-3 Big Ten) opened the second half with a 10-5 run to tie the game.  Wisconsin would go back in front, but a 4th foul charged to Wisconsin’s Jacki Gulczynski, sent her to the bench and the Badgers momentum came to a crashing halt.

Gulczynski finished the night with 19 points for the Badgers (11-14, 3-9), her 18th-consecutive double-digit scoring performance of the season.

Wisconsin next plays at Illinois on Monday night.

Green Bay extends win streak

The Green Bay Phoenix women ran their win streak to 15-straight games, rolling to a 88-51 win over Cleveland State.

Senior Sarah Eichler (Grafton, Wis.) became the 31st member of the Green Bay women’s basketball 1,000-point club on a turnaround layup in the post.  Eichler led Green Bay (20-2, 10-0 Horizon League) with 14 points.

Green Bay hosts Youngstown State on Saturday at the Kress Center.
