Gay rights group reacts to NBA’s Collins

April 30, 2013 By WRN Contributor

A veteran in the NBA is the first athlete in the four major professor sports to come out, and the leader of a state gay rights group says it’s incredibly exciting. Katie Belanger of Fair Wisconsin says Jason Collins is clearing the path for other folks to do the same. She says the more people who come out, the faster the country will move forward on the issues of equality, and acceptance.

“I think that Jason being openly gay and being a male athlete just highlights the fact that there are LGBT people everywhere, in every profession and every part of this country.” says Belanger.

Collins has played in the NBA for 12 years. He was with the Washington Wizards at the end of this past season.
