More budget hearings this week

April 7, 2013 By Jackie Johnson

The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee brings the discussion of the state budget to public in a pair of hearings this week. The first is Monday night at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The second will be held Wednesday at the Kalahari resort in Wisconsin Dells. The last hearing is scheduled for Thursday, April 18th in Baldwin. The first of four hearings was held last week in Greendale.

Committee members are soliciting input from the public on Governor Scott Walker’s $68 billion budget proposal.

Minority Democrats aren’t happy with just four hearings, and they’re holding their own meetings throughout the state.

Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma) is having five town hall meetings in western Wisconsin, saying “the two-year budget affects you in ways you may never have imagined.”

After the hearings, the budget committee will start making revisions to the budget, if needed. Once adopted, the full legislature will act on it. Final approval is expected by June 30.
